Chemical Compatibility Chart

Selecting the correct sorbent is critical for effective spill response and cleanup. Different liquids require different absorbent materials to help ensure safe and efficient containment. Use our compatibility chart as a general guide to identify the recommended sorbent type for common industrial and household liquids.

What Sorbent Do You Need?

Universal Sorbents

Best for water-based liquids, coolants, solvents, oils, and many non-aggressive chemicals.

Oil-Only Sorbents

Best for petroleum products, fuels, lubricants, and hydrocarbons. Oil-only sorbents repel water while absorbing oil-based liquids.

HazMat Sorbents

Best for acids, caustics, unknown liquids, and aggressive chemicals.

Important: Always verify chemical compatibility before responding to a spill. Consult the chemical manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet (SDS), product specifications, and site-specific safety procedures when handling hazardous materials.
